Sharing My Memorable IT Experience before Christmas! πŸŽ…πŸŽ„β„οΈπŸŒ

Ho-ho-ho! Merry Christmas, Joyers! πŸ˜†πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸŽ…

Ups, yes, it’s already December, but maybe it’s too soon to celebrate Christmas now. Haha!

Anyway, how have you been this week, Joyers? I hope that you are in a good condition. Moreover, today, I’ll share one of my unforgettable experiences about technology infusion in learning from my elementary school time. πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ’»

So here is the story. I remember clearly that my mathematics teacher in my 5th grade taught my friends and me about fractions using a very engaging PowerPoint presentation file.  The PowerPoint file had abundant illustrations like the picture of a boy thinking, a girl eating or bringing apples, food like pizzas, and cute animals. Every time my teacher clicked his mouse to go to the next page, in every slide, each illustration would move, flicker, and make sounds. He also always told us to paid attention to the illustrations, like β€œLook at that boy. Why did he look so happy? What are the pinguins doing?”

This memory couldn’t be erased from my mind that the young me who was sitting in the back of the class and who loved to talk with my friends in a soft voice during the class could not put away my eyes from the screen projector when my teacher was taught me about fractions. It felt as if my eyes were glued to it. The lesson media just looked and sounded very interesting and amazing to me.

I believe that my teacher’s intention is good as he knows the inclination of young learners that not all of them love learning mathematics, so he tried to create the learning medias as interesting as possible to engage the students by providing abundant illustrations suitable for each slide and the sounds. Now, I feel like I can’t appreciate him more that he prepared the lesson very neatly like that. I believe that his purpose in explaining the lesson through that very appealing PPT file came through a long time of preparation.

Besides that, when I am reminiscing this experience now, my teacher’s teaching using this PPT is already great. Why? Because my school is in a village, and it was around 2013. Moreover, in that very year, Canva was just launched. It was just so great that my teacher was able to design that learning media with those illustrations and sounds by using a PowerPoint app only, not Canva. I guess that he downloaded the pictures from the internet, converted them into png, erased the backgrounds, and add transition and animations to each. I believe that he could do it by understanding PowerPoint app so well, to be able to create that because even I don’t know how to do that. I actually even don’t want to do it because it’s easier if I use Canva.

Another aspect of the lesson which was already good were like what I mentioned above that in each slide, there would be one or more illustration. He also mentioned the illustration and invited us to pay attention to it.

Nevertheless, about this learning experience and what my teacher did, there are also some things he should have improved. Firstly, he should have chosen more beautiful pictures/illustrations because all pictures have monotonous colour and colouring type. However, about this, I will just accept it because it was in 2013 when the technology was not so modern like nowadays. Moreover and most importantly, there is this one thing that my teacher should have really improved back then. It is about his pace when explaining the material. I felt that he moved to one slide to another too fast. He also didn’t engage with all students, especially all who were sitting in the back. Some of my friends in the back was less called or asked during the lesson because after the students sitting at front already answered, my teacher would continue to the next slide and deem that all students already understood. Also, maybe it’s due to the limited instructional hours that making him couldn’t call all students and just continued when he thought that it was the right time.

Truly, in short, it is just my opinion that although how good the learning is but the delivering method and techniques can’t accommodate all students' needs, it won’t be a very successful learning. Then, when these things are put aside, I really want to appreciate my teacher because no matter what, I still learned something from him, and I want to appreciate his effort in preparing the learning media; this very engaging PowerPoint presentation file. πŸ˜ŠπŸ™
