Ouch! The Last One ... 😭

Good to see you again, Joyers! How are you doing lately?

Then about me …. I am good, but I am so sad that this blog post will be the last one I made this year. Especially, since this is the last one that I will produce from my IT course this semester. Thus, in this blog, I want to share my impression and experience throughout my IT class.

First thing first, let’s recap what I have learnt throughout this class. We discussed Quizizz, Zoom, EdPuzzle, TED-Ed, Typeform, Mentimeter, Word Clouds, interactive images, Google Document, massive certificate-making tips, Microsoft Excel, and online curriculum vitae (CV).

I have known some of them previously before discussing them in class, like Quizziz, Zoom, TED, Google Document, Mentimeter, and Microsoft Excel. However, there are some which were so fascinating to me. They were when I learned to make the interactive image using genial.ly., create my own TED-Ed video by using YouTube video, work with excel to create and rename plenty of certificates, and get to know a web to create an online CV.

Now, let’s talk about my experiences above. Firstly, for the interactive image, I learned about it when my IT class was asynchronous. It already took my attention from the first glance right after I accessed an example of an interactive image. Its feature is that it has several buttons that readers can click to read further details like quotes and short explanations, or access a website or video through a link. In other words, we can embed sentences to a picture and make the readers be able to interact with the picture. Thus, it’s simple, sophisticated, and interesting. I like it so much, and on that day, I created an interactive image to put some websites of my published article and attached little explanation as its background.

Secondly, this is actually the best thing I like the most from my IT class which is to create my own TED-Ed video. I already knew about TED from a long time ago, specifically since I was in my first semester because my listening courses used it for the their material. Then, when I know that I could create my own TED-Ed video but in the form of reposting YouTube video and embedding some comprehensive questions in it, I was so thrilled because I could choose any video from YouTube and create questions from it then combine both the video and those questions into a new TED-Ed video. It’s so fascinating, isn’t it?

Moreover, I also learned this very beneficial thing which was to create many certificates as well as rename them automatically and conveniently. It was just so awesome and exciting because it was like a challenge for me to use complicated formulas on Excel and click this and that to finally be able to do it. However, I could do all, so I am proud of myself, and I’m glad that I could unlock new experiences by learning Microsoft Excel deeper. I already took notes of all steps I need to perform that again, and I believe that it would be so beneficial for me in the future.

Last but not least, I also like what I learned in my last IT class meeting. I was introduced to a website named carrd.co to make online CV. My eyes were opened wide in astonishment when glancing some CV examples with different formats. They were so beautiful and creative. Then, in the near future, I plan to create my CV online by using that website.

Those are some interesting learning parts from my IT class which were so memorable for me. I still could remember my excitement and curiosity when trying them. Thus, based on my experience above, I do think that TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) is very important for learning because, like me, using those applications was so thrilling as it provides fresh experience and can arouse students’ interest to learn. Another reason is that when learning includes TPACK, students are given a chance to use technology, a thing that most children from this modern era like, to learn. Thus, they will be very familiar with it and eager to learn since they are digital natives, right? Then, to make it happen, why doesn’t the teacher take advantage of the students’ familiarity of using technology to create interesting tech-infused learning for them?  The teacher can use some applications like Kahoot!, Quizziz, Wordwall, etc. in the learning process.

For a clearer idea, teachers can use those aforementioned applications, like having a multiple choice test through Quizziz for a summative quiz or a review test. Moreover, the teacher can also provide interactive image for learning a subject by providing an interesting picture, and the teacher provides some details and links to help students learn more about the picture. For example, an English teacher provides a picture of two boys shaking hands, and he provides a link to a website containing some phrases about introducing oneself and a short paragraph to explain the culture in some countries when introducing oneself like in Japan where people will bow down to greet.

Last but not least, to close my story of this learning experience in Information Technology in Language Education class, I want to express my gratitude to my lecturer, Pak Ryan. Thank you for bringing the fresh insightful and sophisticated learning by providing us a chance to learn more about some applications and discover new technologies too. All about the learning activities, the system, and tasks are already good. You gave us time for individual exploration which is so suitable with these adult-students who are already independent. Then, QnA session in almost all sessions made the learning to be student-centered. However, there are two things that can be improved. First, I do hope that the submission place of the blog posts on Bella could have been created regularly in time to not hinder or create confusion when the students already finish the task. Second, I do suggest my lecturer to give us written feedback for each blog post after reading it, so we will have an idea for improving the next blog post. However, Sir, just adjust all of these suggestions with your capacity, time, and availability since it may be a burden too from the workload. That’s all I can say as a little message that hopefully can improve this class. I hope that this course will be improved more and more and can bring insights for anyone after reading all what I learned in this course in the previous blog posts.
